The City of Mandurah last week reaffirmed its commitment to a local alliance focused on addressing and preventing family violence in the region.

Chief Executive Officer Casey Mihovilovich signed the City’s fourth pledge to the Peel Says No To Violence Alliance on November 30, confirming the City’s activities over the next two years towards ending family domestic violence.

This includes providing family violence support, information and training to employees, and participating in annual violence prevention and gender equality events including 16 Days in WA, International Women’s Day, International Men’s Day and White Ribbon Day.

The City will also continue to support and provide resources to the Peel Says No To Violence Alliance and the external Family Domestic Violence Peel Interagency Network, which was established by the City during the pandemic.

The Peel Says No To Violence Alliance comprises local businesses and organisations including Allambee Counselling, Ovis Community Services, Stronger Families, Anglicare WA, Choyces and Peel Community Legal Services.

The City signed its first pledge in 2018, and local community groups, schools and small businesses have also taken part.

CEO Casey Mihovilovich said the City had implemented a number of internal initiatives, tools and resources over the past five years to promote action against violence, such as training a number of employees to help their colleagues with these types of issues.

“Everyone has a part to play in ending family domestic violence, and as one of the biggest employers in the region, we have an important role in leading this with our community,” Ms Mihovilovich said.

“The City is not only committed to assisting people and raising awareness internally, but supporting external groups both financially and with resourcing.”

The Peel Says No To Violence Alliance is financially supported by the City through Community Partnership funding from October 2021 to September 2024.
